A Fall Pillow is now complete for The Turkey Trot.

I have been following many of the Blog Hops that Joan and Carol have throughout the year. They are always so much fun. They indicated that there were spots available for the Turkey Trot and Virtual Cookie Exchange so I asked that I be added to the list.

I seem to have accumulated an endless amount of projects and I'm sure some of them may fit with each topic. I have had this pillow kit from Sew Lux Fabric lingering in my dresser drawer for quite a while.

I have always had issues with sewing this Economy Block the traditional way. I end up not having a 1/4" seam on all sides. Probably because my accuracy is not too swift when sewing the triangles to the side. So I nabbed this 6 1/2" Paper-piecing block . I guess paper-piecing does use a little more fabric than the traditional method. But that's fine, I have plenty of stash sitting around. I added another block or two. It worked out fine.

Once the blocks were completed, Lucky helped to lay out the blocks in a pleasing manner.

Both the front and back are pieced with the Economy blocks. I quilted the front and back with orange thread. It has an orange zipper on the bottom. This pillow will be a nice addition to my couch for the Fall season.

I do have a turkey (er chicken) to use as a doorstop, also. I sewed this crazy birdbrain quite a few years ago. She is filled with scraps and has a cardboard bottom so she sits pretty good.

I hope you have enjoyed my little Turkey Trot. Please check out all of the other wonderful bloggers in this Fun Fall Blog Hop.

  2. I love your pillow, especially how each side is different. It feels so good to get those things we have collected, out and finished doesn't it? Your turkey doorstop is just the cutest thing and perfect for the season!

  3. Those economy blocks made a gorgeous pillow and double-sided is so much nicer than one sided. My pillows never sit perfectly on the couch. Now I want to make one, Danette! It will have to be for another holiday, but it's on my list to use up some of the two tons of fabric in my stash. LOL Thank you for sharing!

  4. It's wonderful that you made such a cute front and back to your pillow. I think paper-pieced projects are great because they always turn out perfectly. What a cute, cute turkey, too. Grand.

  5. You made a beautiful pillow! And I applaud you for using supplies you already had, instead of going out and buying more (like I always seem to do!) This pillow will warm up any room you place it in, and I know I would use it next to me on the couch as I sip a cup of tea and curl up under a blanket. Your pillow = cozy! Beautiful!

    1. Yes, you are correct. Sometimes I go to purchase other fabric. But more and more I have been trying to make use of the fabric that I have. Thanks for your kind comments on my blog.

  9. Isn't it funny how you can set a block or piece of fabric down and the cat just HAS to go sit on it?!? What IS that in cat language? The pillow is beautiful and I love that doorstop! Having chickens (and more specifically, a door that needs a stop!) I should make something like that! She's pretty cute!

    1. Yes, you are so right. I had a quilt laying on the floor for her for days. Did she sit on it - no. But if I lay something new out like these blocks, she just has to investigate. Thank you for visiting my blog.
