Barn Block#2
I started receiving the Sew Sampler from Fat Quarter Shop. One of the things that helped make my decision to buy the boxes was this Barn Block quilt. I am making mine from scraps from a quilt I made over 10 years ago. This one I made purple.
I like how it turned out and will be working on other Barn Blocks when I get the chance. Since this is purple, I am linking to The Monthly Color Challenge at Patterns by Jen

It's Flower Season
Carla at Creatin' in the Sticks is hosting Where Flowers Bloom Blog Hop. So I thought I would join in. I decided to sew this Garland table runner from Table Runner Bliss.
It is a little large for this dresser, but that's ok, I need some runners for my dressers. I just used a mixture of fat quarters from my stash for the flowers. I have used a combination of flower fabric for the back.
I nearly always use my walking foot for quilting. I have the book, Walk by Jacquie Gering so I followed her instructions to quilt these "focal points" in each flower block. I was kind of attempting a sunray. For the focal point quilting, I drew lines every 1 1/2" around the bottom of the block since this is a 9-inch block. You start from the outside of the block and end the quilting all at the same focal point.
After I finished my Garland table runner, I decided to sew this Dish Drying mat. I figured that I'll add it to my Where Flowers Bloom blog hop since it does have flowers in the piecing. I just love these dish drying mats and have sewn a few of these. I use a Tea Towel for the back. This is a tutorial from Sweetwater Pattern and I do have some of their iron-on labels but I decided to not use it for this one. I didn't want to hide the cute ducks in the center block.
I was kind of on a roll with the "focal point" quilting so I quilted this mat that way, too. I think it looks kind of neat from the back. On this mat, I quilted 2 focal points.
Here they are displayed on a little ladder that I recently found.

Graduation Quilt 2018
I completed this quilt in April and have gifted it to my nephew, Colin, who gradated from Charlotte Christian school this year. He's going to be going to College at Coastal Carolina which is by Myrtle Beach. It would be nice to attend college at the beach!
How this quilt started is- Colin sent me a blog photo of someone else's quilt and I sent him a link for the fat quarter colors. He wanted kind of a blue pallet, plus all solids. I just cut 9" squares from a grouping of fat quarters. Then, I sewed 1/2-square triangles. I ended up with 8 1/2" squares, trimmed up and then placed them on my "design floor". I sewed the blocks together in 9 rows and 11 columns to make a twin-size quilt.
I followed Jacquie Gering's "WALK" book and quilted in a Cross Hatch Mashup. I think it suits this quilt and I mostly just know how to quilt with my walking foot anyway. I pieced the back from Navy blue Kona. I cut the small leftovers into 2 1/2" rectangles and sewed them into a continuous strip. I think the strip kind of breaks up all of the navy. Plus, I was kind of taking "poetic license" and adding an extra element that really wasn't asked for.
I attended his Commencement on June 2, 2018. I hope Colin enjoys his new quilt. Happy Friday!
