2019 Planning Party

Yvonne aka Quilting Jet Girl is sponsoring a Quilting Planning Party for 2019. Listing my goals as follows:

1.) I'm going to try to participate in Elm Street Quilts' One Monthly Goal this year. I did not keep up in 2018, but I'm going to try stay on track in 2019. I think it does keep me motivated to write a blog post since my blog is really lacking. I seem to finish quite a few projects, but posting them is another story. In addition, I can encourage other quilters that are posting here.

2.) Finish another one of these Frivols. I still have a few sitting in the boxes, untouched. Who knew?

3.) I am participating in Stargazer BOM at Bryan House Quilts. I just loved the pattern and have purchased my fabric. I'm sure I will keep up with the monthly blocks, but getting it quilted and useable in 2019 may be iffy.

4.) Also, I purchased the Threadology Quilt Along. Of course, I love this one too.

5.) Randomly sew a few items just for some Stress relief.

6.) I have a few UFO's that are completed quilt tops. I would like to finish these this year since a couple have been sitting since 2017. I really want to be able to use them!

7.) Try a few new quilting designs for the completed tops. I quilt everything using my walking foot, but there are numerous designs that can be done.

8.) Lastly, I want to curb my fabric and new project buying! I am going to go through my stuff that is no longer appealing to me and donate to the church that is next door to my office. Hopefully, someone can make use of my extras.

Friday Finish - Yeah!

This is a Frivol that I collected a couple of years ago and it is finished! The completed top was sitting probably since last Winter and I decided that I had to get it done. Originally, my intent with this quilt was to quilt 1/4" from each square or rectangle.

However, I decided to just keep on going and try matchstick quilting. I have often admired matchstick quilting that some quilters have been doing. In reality, I do not believe that I will ever attempt matchstick quilting on any quilt larger than this one. It kind of got annoying. Plus, on this one, when the quilting was done, I did not like the feel of the quilt. But then, once the binding was on and I washed it ( I used fabric softener because I thought the quilt felt so stiff), then I was happy with the end result.

It fits nicely on my side table.

This is a quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. However, this is a Star quilt by me.

But, of course, there would be no Star quilt, if it wasn't for The Super-talented Melissa Corry. There were quite a few participants in Melissa's Seeing Stars Quilt Along. Check them out for some awesome eye candy!

I really liked this pattern and it is unique because there are many different blocks. We sewed each type of star block in one week. I'll admit that, a few times, I almost did not get the blocks completed on time. However, I kept pressing on, and now I have a finished quilt that I can use.

I quilted mine in a cross-hatch on the diagonal. I think it turned out fine and "nice and crinkly-soft". For the back, I used a wavy line of stars.

My husband and I will be enjoying this newly-completed quilt this Winter.

Starry Quilt Top

Finished my quilt top for the Seeing Stars Quilt Along.

Now for the quilting. I plan on quilting this with a Crosshatch on the diagonal. With a larger quilt like this, that's pretty much what I can do. It gets kind of aggravating trying to maneuver the quilt through my Brother machine. I have to spread it out over a good many evenings. This is a nice size quilt that I will be able to use it on my camper bed. We are going on a short trip at the end of October so, hopefully, I will have it done by then.

Linen and Pieced Potholders

I sewed these potholders as a pattern tester for Sara at Radiant Home Studio. I have not had one of the Double-pocket potholders before so it's good to have both of these for my kitchen. Actually, I needed some new potholders. I used Essex linen for the back of the Double-pocket potholder, plus beneath the pieced section, of the Square potholder.

The pattern was very good and it also included a Mitt; however, I ran out of time to sew the Mitt. I do like how they turned out and may sew a few more to use on my camper.

Red and Blue Applique Stars

I finished my Applique Stars for The Seeing Stars Quilt Along. I'm really not a big fan of applique and really hardly ever do it. But I do think they will add something to the completed quilt top, especially since there are so many.

I used the "starch method" and just kept on ironing starch onto my fabrics while watching tv. Then cutting out the star wasn't too bad. I was finishing that up at around 10:30 at night and my husband wondered what was wrong with me. Because I normally am in bed earlier than that on a work night. When I started sewing the stars onto the background squares, I was going too slow and thought I would never get done. So I sped up my sewing machine and then got them completed pretty fast.

So that is it for the blocks. Below is a photo of all of my blocks stacked up. A nice, quilty, little pile.

2018 Graduation Quilt

I finished this quilt for my Nephew's graduation this year. He has officially graduated from Charlotte Christian School. So, of course, his quilting-Aunt had to sew him a quilt. He chose the colors that he liked and gave me an idea of what type of quilt he wanted to me to make for him. He was pleased with this quilt when I gave it to him at his graduation party in June. The fabric is all Kona solids.

I pieced the backing from Navy Kona and sewed 2 inch strips from the little bit of leftover fabric that I had. This quilt came out nice and comfy and I think it does kind of suit a boy.

I am entering this completed quilt at Amy's Creative Side: 2018 Blogger's Quilt Festival. I hope you have enjoyed seeing one of my completed quilts for 2018.

Pumpkin Table Runner and Placemats

It is another year of The Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side so I have decided to add these Placemats and Table Runner as one of my completed projects. I finished these in October 2017 and just got them out again to use for Fall. So in actuality, they have been completed within the past year.

I do really like them and I just use plan on using them during Fall so, hopefully, they will not get food and drinks spilled all over them. These actually took me quite a while to complete. The fabric is all flannel so they have a very nice feel and weight to them. I hope you have enjoyed seeing my Fall placemats and runner.

Just your Basic Stars

Finished these stars for the Seeing Stars Quilt Along.

I guess, they are considered "basic" stars because the other stars we have been sewing were a bit more complex. Plus, we have sewn these before within larger stars.

I did not have too much time to sew this past week since we were on a camping trip. But I'm glad I got them done. There is only 1 more set of stars and then putting the quilt top together. I will be glad to have a completed quilt top in Red, White, and Blue.

Welcome to My House Blog Hop

Normally, for quilting, I would think of a "pieced" house. When I decided to join the Welcome to My House Blog Hop at Just Let Me Quilt, I was wondering what project to make. I looked through my WIPs and then it dawned on me that I had some quilt blocks started and -ta dah- one had a house on it.

So I got to work completing this quilt top. I had decided to make this quilt by Doug Leko in Fall 2017, I think. This pattern uses panels for 5 of the blocks. I had these kayak and camping panels and I wanted to try to use them. The house block was from a different panel, but I thought they went together nicely.

My husband and I purchased kayaks a year ago and we love to go kayaking. Plus we go camping a good many times throughout the year. This is my finished quilt I just completed last weekend. I am looking forward to using it on our camper this Fall because we have two trips scheduled in October. It is a bit small for a bed, but it should fit nicely on our pull-out couch in the camper.

Sometimes it's a little difficult to use panels in a quilt but I always seem to be buying them. So for the back, I have used a different Fall leaves panel. I thought this went nicely on the back with the backing fabric that I purchased.

I quilted a wavy lines quilting that I was able to do using my walking foot. I am mostly a walking-foot, straight-line type of quilter. But I have been trying a few different ways to quilt lately.

I saw this wavy quilting in a quilt magazine and it seemed easy to do. Then I got out my Walk book by Jacquie Gering and this method was described in there. I think it gives the quilt a nice texture. When I had some of the wavy lines quilted, I laid the quilt on the floor and my husband and I both thought that it kind of resembled movement of wind, also, which kind of fit for a windy Fall leaves quilt.

You can hang out on my swing outside with my brand new quilt and have a cup of tea, if you'd like.
