Star Pulse Bonus Quilt

When piecing the Star Pulse quilt top, there were extra half-square triangle blocks that developed. Then, an additional small quilt top can be sewn out of the extra blocks. This is my completed quilt from the bonus blocks.

I quilted it in a cross hatch and then added these small curves crossing the center. It does make the quilte a little puffy which is nice.

I used this cat Tula Pink fabric for the backing since I had a couple of yards.

The binding is "bubbles" leftover from a baby quilt a few years ago. I have been collecting leftover bindings in a basket that can quickly be pulled out. This binding was just big enough for this quilt.

I am now enjoying my small quilt from the bonus blocks. Thanks to  Quilting Jet Girl for this "extra pattern". Plus, it's always great to use up leftovers. I am posting my finish to the Star Pulse Quilt Along Linkup

Star Pulse - Shades of Teal and Blue

I had been following along for the Star Pulse Quilt Along at Quilting Jet Girl's Blog I finished my Star Pulse quilt top a few weeks ago. I chose teal colors for the quilt top. I worked at it to get it quilted and bound.

The quilting was done in a wave following the edge of the walking foot. It did get very repetitious but I like how it came out.

For the backing, I pieced some yardage that I had in the house that were shades of blue.

I am posting my finish at Yvonne's linkup for Star Pulse QAL. Thank you so much, Yvonne, for this fun pattern and Quilt Along. I will be looking forward to the next annual Quilt Along.

Toting around An Irish Chain.

I did not have a plan for this week's Challenge at Persimon Dreams Blog. I thought about it for a while and decided to sew this Nine Patch Tote Charise Creates. I have had this tote pattern for quite a long time, but have not sewn it. Totes are so useful.  I do believe the front resembles an Irish Chain.

For the back I chose this cute animals in the forest print.

And, of course, I had to add a "Happiness is Homemade" label.

Now I have a cute and fun tote bag for my excursions.  Thanks to Kim and Trish for all of these challenges this year. I am happy to say that I have completed all of the challenges this year.

Wicked Witch of the West Hat

My "clothing" sewing is slim to none. I have sewn aprons for a Halloween costume and I do enjoy wearing them to pass out treats. I had purchased this witch hat pattern a while back so I decided that I would sew the hat for This week's wearables challenge.

I used scraps from my previous Halloween aprons to piece the top. For the brim, I was able to use a fat quarter for the lining and I had just enough left-over scary cat fabric for the top. I did piece and quilt the top of hat. The brim is quilted, also.

I am happy with how my witch hat came out. I will be looking forward to wearing it to pass out treats at Halloween.

Buzzing Along

The theme for the 4th Challenge of Project Quilting is Hourglass. It didn't have to be the typical hourglass block, but that is what I decided to sew. I chose to make a pin cushion this week. I do like to have extra pin cushions around my sewing machine.

I used 4 1/2 blocks from this Trinket Quilt Pattern

I had a small amount of this bee fabric left and some woodgrain fabric so I decided to put them together.

I added this label to the bottom just because I liked how it fit.

I am linking my completed Hourglass pin cushion before the challenge expires. Many thanks to Kim and Trish for these fun challenges. And, in the end, I have a useful and fun pin cushion.

What a Basket Case

I have made quite a few of these Divided Baskets through the years. Usually, I give them as an extra gift if I have sewn a baby quilt. I like to put the diapers in them and, to me, it makes the gift more fun. Plus it matches the quilt and I can use more of the fabric. Following are a couple:

Nettie Sews and Lucky Quilts: Ring Around the Rosy quilt and Divided Basket

Nettie Sews and Lucky Quilts: Sending my Baby Shower gift through UPS

I just decided one day last week to sew this one. In reality, this fabric sat in my stash FOREVER and I just wanted to use it up. Every time I happened to see it, I would just cringe about when am I ever going to use these fat quarters? I just winged it and pieced the panels in any old fashion.

It took me probably 3 days. I like to let the fabric sit and dry overnight after adhering the interfacing. It is usually still a little damp, plus, I like to re-iron it again to get any creases or bubbles out.

Basket Back

I have been using this basket, so far, for storing some of my dvds. I do still watch (and buy) dvds. They are convenient to me because I can just pause them or whatever. I added this label with my name to the inside because I am keeping this basket. If I was giving it away, I don't know that I want a label with my name on it on the basket.

Divided Inside

This little label was added to the front. I have accumulated a big variety of labels so I am enjoying adding them to smaller items like this.

Melva at Melva Loves Scraps has recently visited my blog. So I am added this finish to Sew & Tell

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be, also.

I finished this Heart Drawstring Bag for my Sister-in-law. Her birthday is today, February 13. I can usually remember her Birthday because it is around Valentine's Day. I thought the Heart Bag was appropriate for today.

On the back, I added a "LOVE" label. I think it just adds a little something to a small project.

I made a couple of these Butterfly pouches a few weeks ago so I gave this one to her. It just fit into the Heart Bag. She does seem to like the pouches I have made and given to her previously. They are very useful.

Flipping out for a Pencil Pouch

The theme for Project Quilting #3 is Inside Out. I decided to sew a Pencil Pouch since you pull it through from the from the inside to the outside. The completed Pencil Pouch looks like this before turning:

Once flip-flopped through to the other side, now Presenting my Pretty, Pieced, Pencil Pouch.

I added a label to the back for extra Pizazz.

Thanks so much Kim and Trish for having these fun and fanciful quilt challenges.

Pouches in a procession

I have not made many "quilts" in the month of January, but I have made progress on my pouches that have been sitting in a dresser drawer. All pouches are pieced so I will consider them my small quilts.

I belonged to the Monthly Pouch Club at SewLux Fabric for a couple of years. I really was lagging behind in finishing them. Slowly, though, I am working through my pouch kits. This is the Sunflower pouch and I do love it. I recently ordered the Sunflower zipper pull and it really adds a nice touch.

On the back, I added this label that I receive from Sweetwater once in a while. I need to start using these labels, too, so I am going to randomly add them to pouches and quilts. They do add a little something to the project.

The next pouch that I completed is this Gumball pouch, also a pattern from SewLux. I just loved it when I saw it, but it sat in my drawer until a few weeks ago. I am happy with how it turned out.

These little 2 1/2" squares are "snowballed" all around with the white and block dots so it was a little time-consuming. Both the front and back are mini-charms that are snowballed.

Last, but not least is this pouch, Tiny Tulips. It was completed at the beginning of January.
I love this Tiny Tulips pouch, too. I have not used any of these pouches yet. I may start using one of these in the Spring when we start going camping. I love these pouches for carrying my makeup.

I have given pouches to my family and friends and they seem to enjoy them, also. I like to have a few made ahead of time, in case I need a gift.

I just recently purchased these zipper pulls, so cute. While taking these photos, I just realized that I put the zipper in on this pouch on the right side, rather than the left side like the other two. I never paid attention to that before.

I am posting to From Bolt to Beauty, Brag about your Beauties. I am certainly not the greatest with posting my completed projects online. I am trying to start remembering my neglected blog.

It just happens that Michelle is having a giveaway for a gift certificate for SewLux Fabric and all of my finished pouches are Chrissy's patterns from SewLux. I do enjoy the patterns that Chrissy makes. I think that they are just fun and very useful.

I have set My rainbow in the clouds...

The theme for Project Quilting 15.2 was to depict sky colors but not the usual blue. I was kind of stumped for a project, I guess. But a lightbulb went on and I did think that the rainbow is in the sky and therefore, the rainbow is sky colors. So I have sewn this rainbow pouch. We could use 10% or less of the usual sky blue so that is represented in one of the blades.

This is a pattern by the Fabulously, talented Chrissy at Sew Lux Fabric. I enjoyed sewing this rainbow pouch and look forward to the next challenge. It's all about fun and having a finished project at the end of the week.

Bird House Project Quilting Challenge #1

I would like to participate in some of the Project Quilting challenges at Persimon Dreams. I managed to complete this potholder in time for Challenge #1.

The back of the potholder shows the bird outside of his cage.

But the birds do not stay in their cage. They make a nest in Miss Ghastly's hair.

Project #1 - all about Bird houses is complete. I will be looking forward to Project Quilting #2. It is fun to try something different. I now have a fun and useable potholder.
